Most of the materials used in older autos for seat and side panels were either leather ,wool cloth(mohair, bedford cord, broadcloth) or a combination of both. Usually a closed car had cloth and an open car had leather. In the newer autos (50's on up) newer cloths of nylon and also vinyl were pretty much standard, leather was used also.
Headliners in older autos were pretty much wool(broadcloth or brushed cotton). For the newer autos vinyl and perforated vinyl in many patterns were used.
Carpeting in older autos were either wilton wool, square weave, or hogshair. For the newer autos nylon carpeting was used in eiter a cut pile or loop texture. Also in a lot of 50's and early 60's cars daytona, gross point, or trinadad carpeting, which has flecks of silver thread, was used. All three are available now but in limited colors.
For convertible tops on older autos cloth canvas was used almost exclusively on open cars. Although some used a vinyl either in a smooth grain or a cobra grain. On the newer autos vinyl was the top of choice in many different grains, although canvas was still used on some cars.
Vinyl tops were on older autos also in either a smooth or cobra grain. Though some of the higher end autos used leather. On the newer autos vinyl tops in many different grains were used.
All of the materials above are available in many different colors, patterns, and grains. Just contact us and we will be willing to assist you in acquiring samples of any of them.
